Background: Karen Monroe spent 5 grueling years in the U. S. Army after high school, and volunteered to serve in the elite Ranger forces. She took to militarly life like a duck to water, but after five years of missions she can never talk about, she opted out, looking for something different. She became a career cop with the Miami Police Department, but found herself continually hamstrung by the rules and regulations that seemed to prevent even the seamiest of street hoodlums from receiving just punishment for their crimes. When her partner was killed by a highly place mob hitman named Barker, Monroe swore that this one wouldn't be one that got away. She was wrong. Soon after, Barker elected to turn state's evidence and, while help in protective custody, prepared himself to enter the U.S. Government's witness protection program. Unfortunately for Baker, his safety was jeopardized by a secret traitor within the justice department-and when Foxbat kidnaped him as part of an operation to smoke out that traitor, circumstances left suspicion to fall on Detective Monroe, who was suspended from the force pending a full investigation.
Monroe, determined not only to prove her innocence but to finally bring Barker to justice, had only one lead on Barker's whereabouts: she knew Foxbat had him, a silver of knowledge that in time allowed her to unearth one of his old assistants-a former criminal informant known only as Scoops. As it happened, before linking up with Foxbat, Scoops had assisted the late crimefighter Adrian Chase, known to the authorities as 'Sureshot'. Scoops entrusted Monroe with Chase's costume and weaponry, at which point she joined forces with Foxbat as the all-new Sureshot in order to flush out the turncoat who had cast suspicion on her.
Following the resolution of her first case as Sureshot, Monroe decided that she much preferred working outside the system and permanently resigned form the police force. Now, supported by whatever illicit funds she can steal from the criminal scum she pursues (and showing a preference for those with the most cash on hand), Monroe lives the life of an urban commando wanted by the law for questioning, forever on the move. Nevertheless, she's built up quite a sizable fortune this way, and keeps it stored in a Swiss account.
Quote: "Forgive me, but I'm going to have to kill you now."
Personality: Sureshot has a serious vigilante mentality. She feels that decent people are getting treated like scum, while the crooks get free ride after free ride. Her professional personality is one of cool disdain, but she is a fair actress and can portray a farly diverse if steriotypical set of personalities, from bookworm to vamp - as long as it helps her take down her next target.
Powers/Tactics: Skilled in the use of firearms, heavy weapons and the martial arts, Sureshot was combat-trained by an elite cadre of instructors while serving as an airborne Ranger - one of the first women ever to do so. As such, she is privy to numerous fighting techniques that allow her to more than hold her own in any battle.
Sureshot is never without her automatic rifle, sidearm handgun, and night-vision goggles; moreover, the pockets of her flak-jacket contain a bevy of additional crimefighting accessories, including glasscutters, climbing rope, and a large survival knife that doubles as a bayonet.
Appearance: Sureshot is lean with close-cropped blonde hair and green eyes, although her visor is specifically tinted to make them hard to see. She stands 5' 9" and weaighs 120 lbs. Her costume is dark blue, with white gloves and boots, and the entire suit is constructed with Kevlar weave. When she is operating undercover (including her id of Karen Monroe) she wears a variety of disguises, usually including a long wig in a darker shade, and reading glasses. Even in this guise, she's likely to have a knife and her handgun concealed on her. |
